Support your arts community!

Volunteering is an excellent way to meet people and contribute to the vibrant Port Moody arts community. Our volunteers have fun, create lasting friendships, and have behind-the-scenes access to our community events. Volunteers are also invited to special volunteer-appreciation art nights!

Youth Volunteers

Have fun, gain experience, and get creative with us!

TRUE COLOURS
In June 2022 PoMoArts will host True Colours, a Pride Month celebration for youth and families. It includes a youth art exhibition with an opening reception, art workshops, a speaker event for youth by established artists in the LGBTQ2S+ community and an all ages outdoor community Family Pride Day event with artists, art activities, and youth performers.

The True Colours exhibition and events at PoMoArts are striving to create a safe, and welcoming space for Tri-City LGBTQ2S+ youth, their families, and their allies, where they are respected for their differences and their unique contributions.

PoMoArts is inviting all youth age 14 - 18 years to volunteer to help with our True Colours events in June 2022.

Spring Break, Summer Camp, and Pro-D Day Volunteers: Our creative art camps run through spring break, throughout the summer, and on SD 43’s Pro-D Days. There are a variety of themes, including visual art (painting and drawing), clay, mixed media, fashion design, hand sewing, acting, and more! Volunteers support Instructors with the children's creative crafts and projects, lunchtime supervision, and act as role models for camp-goers. This is a great opportunity for growing leadership skills!

Event Volunteers: The Port Moody Arts Centre participates in various community events throughout Port Moody and the Tri-Cities, such as the Port Moody Community Fair, Car-Free Day, Ioco Ghost Town Day and more! Craft Volunteers assist children with artwork at a craft table during off-site and in-house events. If you are outgoing and enjoy a fast-paced and fun environment, this is the role for you! Volunteers will be notified of the events as they approach. Directions will be provided to off-site events.

Birthday Party Volunteers: The Port Moody Arts Centre is looking for active and energetic volunteers (aged 14 and up) to assist with our weekend children's birthday parties of creative themes and art projects. Led by one of our talented Arts Centre Instructors, up to 12 children participate in an exciting hour of a creative art or clay activity followed by an hour of booked room space in our decorated birthday room. Our volunteers assist the Instructors by encouraging children to create their masterpieces in a fun and welcoming environment. Volunteers will assist with set up and clean up.

Exhibition Installation and Take Down: Help the Arts Centre set up and take down it's gallery exhibitions! Get a behind-the-scenes glimpse of what it takes to put an exhibition together. Volunteers assist the Gallery Manager with setting up and taking down the exhibition approximately every six to eight weeks according to the schedule, which is available upon request. Gallery installation and strike usually take place between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM on weekdays. You must be able to lift at least 40lbs. Volunteers can expect to fill holes, sand, paint, measure, and use small power tools. Training can be provided if no prior experience in gallery installations.

Community Events Volunteer: Our community events volunteers participate in two different types of activities: Gallery Receptions and neighbourhood events.

Gallery Receptions are fun and exciting evenings where the public comes to view the new exhibits for the first time, often in the presence of the exhibiting artists. Those scheduled for Gallery Receptions can expect to greet visitors at the door, plate and set out food and beverages, and tend to the bar. Those tending the bar will require Serving It Right.

The Arts Centre is also involved in neighbourhood events throughout the community. These events (for instance, Car-Free Day, the Port Moody Shuffle, and Culture Days, among others) are occasionally craft-based, but generally involve conversational outreach and information distribution, such as brochures.

Brochure Distribution: Brochure Distribution Volunteers help to promote and educate citizens about the Arts Centre, by placing brochures, rack cards, and bookmarks, in public libraries, recreation centers, and various public spaces.. Hours are flexible.
