True Colours - Call for Youth Artists
PoMoArts, the Port Moody Arts Centre Society, is a community-based arts organization in Port Moody, British Columbia. We create art experiences to engage, challenge, and awaken opportunities for connection.
The True Colours exhibition is creating a safe and welcoming space for Tri-City LGBTQIA2S+ youth, their families, and their allies, where they are respected for their differences and their unique contributions. It is a celebration of youth artists (age 12-19) who identify as queer, questioning or allies of the LGBTQIA2S+ community. The goal is to encourage and promote inclusivity and diversity within the Tri-Cities arts community among our young people.
For the True Colours exhibition, PoMoArts is inviting youth artists to submit original artwork that explores themes of identity, family and culture. School District 43 (Port Moody, Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Anmore and Belcarra) students are encouraged to apply.
The exhibition runs from May 16 – July 8, 2024. An invite-only True Colours Artist Reception will be held on June 6, 2024 for the artists to invite their friends and family. In addition, True Colours artists are invited to attend the public Opening Reception for all PoMoArts exhibitions in this show on May 16, 2024.
What you need to know:
- Youth between 12 and 19 years old, who identify as queer, questioning or allies of the LGBTQIA2S+ community, are eligible to apply.
- School District 43 (Port Moody, Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Anmore and Belcarra) students are encouraged to apply.
- Maximum of three (3) entries per person of original 2D wall mounted artwork.
- Due to space limitations, we are unable to accept 3D works requiring floor space to display.
- Gallery space is limited and submission does not guarantee entry into the exhibition.
What you need to do:
- Fill out the online application form
- Include images of your artwork in jpg format
- Tell us about yourself and tell us what Pride means to you.
- By submitting, you are granting permission to PoMoArts to use images of artwork accepted into the exhibition for publicity purposes.
