Artist Statement

Sang Hee Kim’s contribution to Re: Through the Times aims to focus on portraying bonds of past and future by using traditional Korean mediums such as mihwa and ilp’irhwiji. Symbols in the Palgak Shipjangsaengro are separated or sometimes grouped together to portray different aspects of human life and bonds. The symbols in her works are disseminated to tell separate stories of their own and their individual works should be reflected as a harmonious whole within Sang Hee’s art, allowing for the spectator to appreciate the beauties of the past with more traditional mediums in the current present.
