Hello and welcome to my page, I am a Visual Artist

Eunkyo Kim, also known as UNKY LASTRANGE, is a visual artist who has traversed continents to create captivating and thought-provoking artworks. Born and raised in South Korea, Eunkyo embarked on her artistic journey at a young age, receiving formal training in pencil detail and colour theory as part of the Southeastern Asian art school curriculum. Alongside her academic education, she immersed herself in private and group art classes, nurturing her understanding of the fundamentals of art.

After completing her studies in visual design, Eunkyo ventured into the world of design work and freelance illustration, honing her creative skills and developing a keen eye for detail. However, it was her move to Canada that ignited her passion for painting. Settling on the West Coast, she merged her disciplined training with the influences of the region, infusing her art with a unique blend of cultural nuances.

In recent years, Eunkyo has fully embraced the realm of painting, primarily working with oil as her chosen medium. Her artistic endeavours delve into the depths of her imagination and explore the profound landscapes of dreams.

Artist Statement

During the challenging times of the pandemic, finding motivation to create was a struggle. However, amidst this adversity, I managed to produce a piece of artwork titled "Magic in the Water." This painting was the result of my participation in the Surrey Art Gallery Association's competitive online oil paintoff contest, where I was honoured to receive the 1st place prize.

"Magic in the Water" represents a departure from my usual style, as it embraces a more realistic approach rather than modified characters and shapes. This artwork is a reflection of my intuitive process, capturing the fleeting moments of beauty without judgment or concern for right or wrong.

The inspiration behind this piece stemmed from the harmonious convergence of various elements: the mesmerizing movement of water, the boundless love I have for my precious daughter, the warm embrace of sunlight, and an overwhelming sense of joy. These elements harmoniously came together, resulting in a work that encapsulates a moment of pure enchantment.

As an artist, I strive to convey the emotions and experiences that touch me deeply. "Magic in the Water" is a testament to my artistic journey, where I allow myself to be guided by intuition and a profound appreciation for the beauty that surrounds us.
