A multifaceted artist, Anne Marie was born and raised on the North Shore and has worked in photography, watercolors, oil painting and drawing most of her life. She evolved into folk arts, sewing, knitting, quilting, restoring old furniture and basketry. Basketry is still a major focus. She is a member of The British Basketmaker’s Assc., The Salt Spring Island Basketry Guild and a Vancouver based Basketmakers group. Anne Marie continues to work in Basketry in more nontraditional ways. During the past three years she has been exploring Acrylic painting and collage work. What gives her joy in her life is her artistic expression, and she endeavors to express it in everything she does from painting, basketry, gardening, to baking.

Artist Statement
My name is Anne Marie Buchanan and I am an Artist living in North Vancouver, BC, Canada. For the exhibit “Soft Change” my inspiration comes from my appreciation of nature. I love the process of creating and working with new shapes as they emerge and colours begin to flow through the new basket. I hope that the visitors to the gallery will be interested and surprised by my Contemporary Basketry. As the seasons change, I change, my colours become bright and flashy in the spring and summer and deeper and darker more muted tones emerge as the fall and winter approach.
