Hello and welcome to my page, I am a Visual Artist, Fibre Artist, Art Group or Association, Mixed/Multi Media
Hollis Nelson and Karlee McKenzie are the two artists behind The Hawks Project. The Hawks Project is a slow fashion, recycling and art collective that practices out of Sunrise Studios in the downtown east side of Vancouver. Karlee and Hollis met while serving at Bandidas Taqueria on Commercial Drive in Vancouver BC. They immediately bonded over their mutual love of art, fashion and vintage. They also share a love for our land and the environment as well as creative collaboration with the young and young at heart. They began officially collaborating in 2017, when Hawks was born. Besides a shared love of creation, both Hollis and Karlee experience personal healing through the art they make. They feel creativity has been a gift in their lives and they are passionate about sharing this gift with any and all who are willing.

We are recycling artists. We are interested in what has been discarded, what has been left behind. The medium that mainly moves us is textiles. The negative impacts of fast fashion inspire us to re-imagine that which already exists instead of buying new. Using paint, scissors, needles and thread as our tools, we craft damaged garments and re-design them, extending their life.
