Samples of my work
When I retired from hairstyling I started to paint . I had always dabbled in drawing , painting , stained glass , paper toll, jewelry making as well as being very active in my hairstyling career that involved hair competitions. I was the hairstylist of the year twice , was a bc champion twice and was on the Canadian team in the worlds competition 1 time . I also had a master judge degree , so I could [ and did] judge many contests . To get that degree I had to take art classes on what to look for . It was not to do with painting just basis art forms , focal point secondary focal point , balance ,colour harmony ,lights and darks , mood , flow from one area to the next, drawing your eye around the entire area , drama, texnique and expertise in creating a finished look and mostly that WOW factor. When I started to paint it came very easy to me because I was one step ahead because all of the above are also needed in creating a painting .
I always tell a store in one way or another in my paintings to connect with the viewer . In a portrait I always put items in that tell you who this person is . In other images you may have to look to find the story but it is there .
I am mostly a representational painter but I am always trying out new things to take me out of my comfort zone because that is when my creativity awakened and I learn the most . I think most artist never feel they have learned everything and that is what makes art so exciting one is constantly evolving and creating always eager to start that new painting .
